European Tour,

Carbon tracking app

7 ⁄ 8
Web + iOS + Android

Create a tool that enables European Tour players to offset emissions from tournament travel while integrating into the existing platform. Delivered within three weeks, the focus was on creating a lean, intuitive MVP with potential for future growth.

A prototype focussed approach to rapid delivery

With a fast-approaching launch for the 2024/25 season, the team prioritised a focused MVP to enable live testing during real-world use. While the timeline didn’t allow for traditional research methods, this created an opportunity to move quickly, validate key assumptions through close collaboration, and establish a flexible feedback system to learn and adapt as the season unfolded.

Key established objectives ↓

  1. Seamless Integration
— Ensure the tool blends naturally into the existing Player Portal for a unified user experience.

  2. Inspiring Competition —
Tap into the competitive mindset of professional athletes by introducing light, friendly competition to encourage engagement with carbon tracking.

  3. Tangible Impact
— Make environmental impact feel personal and relevant by translating abstract concepts like CO₂ emissions into relatable, real-world terms that motivate action.
  4. Distinct Identity
— Maintain alignment with existing brand guidelines while introducing a fresh, engaging visual direction.

  5. Tailored Themes
— Apply unique visual themes to reflect the identities of the DP World Tour, Challenge Tour, and Legends Tour.

  6. Scalability
— Design with simplicity and clarity, while building in flexibility for future growth and development.

Encouraging carbon offsetting through contextual insights

I helped define a strategy that focused on positive motivation and tangible impact, prioritising incentives and rewards over shame-based messaging. Working closely with the client and wider team, we defined a clear set of carbon offsetting measures that were intentionally apolitical and constructive, designed to help players understand the real-world environmental benefits of their actions.

Tailoring to tours

European Tour Group (ETG) encompasses three key men’s tours: the flagship DP World Tour, the feeder Challenge Tour, and the senior-level Legends Tour. While all three share a common ETG design language, each has subtle brand differences that required a flexible, unified design system.

My goal was to create a solution agnostic enough to accommodate these variations, while being easy to implement with minimal engineering effort.
